Peace and the “Hero’s Journey”

On Sunday’s Stay Peaceful, the topic will be Peace and the “Hero’s Journey”.

Joseph Campbell opened the world’s eyes in his seminal work The Power of Myth. In that book, and the accompanying PBS mini-series, Campbell spoke about “The Hero’s Journey.”

Up for  discussion this Sunday is the “Hero’s Journey” and how that journey reflects into the notion of Peace.

Some ideas that will be discussed:

  1. What is Campbell’s “Hero’s Journey”?
  2. What are the myths associated with the “Hero’s Journey”?
  3. What parts of the journey are we embarking on today?
  4. What can we learn about ourselves and our striving for Peace through the “Hero’s Journey”?

These and other thoughts will be shared on the next Stay Peaceful.

I hope you can tune in.

Stay Peaceful,

Jason

Peace and Sacrifice

The topic for this Sunday's Stay Peaceful is Peace and Sacrifice.

Some of the ideas that will be discussed on this show will include:

  1. What is a "sacrifice" when it comes to achieving peace?
  2. What sacrifices have been made in the past?
  3. Why do sacrifices inspire action or support?
  4. What should be sacrificed for peace?
  5. What "sacrifices" have we been making as a species to concerns that do not promote peace?
These and other ideas will be discussed on the next Stay Peaceful.

I hope you can tune in.

Sunday, November 18th's Stay Peaceful: Peace and Single-hood

On the next Stay Peaceful: Peace and Single-hood.

In a recent set of studies in the UK, single-hood has become identified as a growing trend in western, developed countries. Many people proclaim that they are happier being single, or that they have negotiated their "status" and face only the silent reprisals of a society that judges them harshly for their choice to live alone. Singles are of all ages and stem from all backgrounds. Some are "in relationships", but choose to maintain separate, "single" households. Some have no desire to ever become involved or become married, a sort of new cloistered set of professionals.

Some ideas that will be explored on this show:

1. What do people find attractive about being single?
2. What are the affects of this trend on our western society?
3. How does this trend promote or destroy a peaceful existence?
4. What are the real hazards of single-hood?
5. What does this bode for our future as a species?

These and other notions will be explored on the topic of Peace and Single-hood the next Stay Peaceful.

I hope you can tune in.

Stay Peaceful,
Jason

November 11th's Stay Peaceful: Peace in Wartime

The next Stay Peaceful airs on November 11th, Remembrance Day!

So, Stay Peaceful welcomes special guest George Johnson, playwright and author, who will be speaking on the timely topic of Peace in Wartime.

George Johnson has recently completed a screenplay tentatively titled "Peace Pledge". The story? A disillusioned World War One veteran, challenged by a reckless preacher, reluctantly takes up pacifism, losing both friends and family but gaining a second chance in love.

He is also working on a book called "Mourning and Mysticism in First World War Literature: Grappling With Ghosts".

This show will prove to be very insightful and certainly intriguing.

It all starts at 1pm on Sunday, November 11th.

I hope you can tune in.

Stay Peaceful,
Jason

Happiness: "What is the Wish-fulfilling Jewel?"

"Suffering and pain arise because we separate ourselves from other beings. When we meditate on compassion, we begin to realize that we aren’t separated from others at all: they are having the same experiences that we are, because all beings want happiness and we wish for them to have it. All beings do not want to suffer and we wish that they will not. It is a very simple practice, but it is also a transforming practice, because as we continue, the conceptual boundary between “us” and “them” begins to melt. That gives us more energy to think about the needs of others, develop kind thoughts and intentions, and lead our life based on those principles."
